 Villa Dzervin in Knjazevac

Dzervin mansion is one of symbols of town Knjazevac. It was built in 1939. on a state of merchant Tasa Cvetkovic (construction was financed by Tasa's son, previous owner of Belgrade’s pub and cinema "Kolarac"). Mansion was built based on castle "Breht" on Verter lake. Today it’s an abandoned ruin, but from its balconies you can still see a magnificent view of Knjazevac.

Castle "Bissingen" was bulit by count

Djerdj Mechonji in 1859. The family Bissingen possessed it from the time of it's construction until the Second World War.

 Castle Spitzer in Beocin

Hotel Haludovo in Krk, Croatia

Castle "Spitzer" was constructed between 1892. and 1898. by the influential Spitzer family, who were

the owners of Beocin cement factory. It's architectural style features early Secession, but it also freely borrows from many other styles like Romanesque, Gothic and Baroque, making it very unique.

Hotel Haludovo was built in 1972. on the island of Krk off the coast of Croatia. Bob Guccione bought the hotel at one point and tried to make it a high end destination point for the rich, but due to political turbulence of Yugoslavia, tourism came to halt and the hotel sits abandoned.

 Mansion in Milosa Pocerca street

  Pin’s Villa was built in 1894. This French style mansion was built by Laszlo Gyalus from Budapest. According to historians and artists it’s defined as combination of romanticism and secession with a hint of gothic.  At the beginning of nineties Villa becomes property of state, abandoned and ideal place for squatters and homeless.

 Castle Fernbach in Aleksa Santic

Castle Fernbach (Babapuszta) was built in 1906. by Karolj Fernbach, according to the project of a Hungarian architect of secession style approach, Hikisch Reszo. It is located in the center of today neglected park, which used to be arranged based on the principile of English gardens as a free building with an emphasized entrance fasade with portico and a square bell tower at one side.

Castle Karacsonyi in Novo Milosevo

Castle Karacsonyi was built between 1842. and 1856. and it is the biggest castle in Vojvodina. Before nationalization lavish castle was robbed by locals in heat of revolution. After Word War II, castle became property od Republic of Serbia and consequently agricultural collective, local community center, biggest pub in Balkan and domestic product factory. Today, abandoned castle is an issue for both locals and Institute for the Protection of Monuments.

The chemical industry Zorka was founded in 1938. and it was one of the most respectable producers of mineral fertilizers with a phosphorus component in the territory of ex Jugoslavia. During the 90' war and sanctions have led to a decline in production and an inability to procure raw materials. Due to lack of financial resources, there was no overhaul of the plant, which led to further deterioration. The ruins of the old part of Zorka was demolished last year, but luckily these photos remain as a memory.

Beautiful mansion in Miloša Pocerca 32 was constructed between 1892. and 1896. by famous architect Jovan Ilkić.  This mansion represents very authentic free mixture of styles: Rustic, Renaissance, Baroque and Classicism.

 
 

Castle Gombos in Becej

Castle Gombos was built at the beginning of XX century. The owner of this property was nobleman and lawyer Deze Gombos. In 1944. Deze and his wife left the estate and moved to Hungary, but the last time when castle was used was about 1960. Gombos is completely abandoned today, although it is located only two kilometers away from the famous turistic place - castle Fantast.

Castle Hertelendi

Hotel "Staro Zdanje" in Arandjelovac

The construction of hotel "Staro zdanje" was completed in 1872. It is located in the center of city Arandjelovac and has the status of cultural and historical monument. It is one of the most beautiful examples of the architecture of Serbian romanticism, which was designed by Kosta Shreplovich and it's originally intended was for the National Assembly of Serbia. The hotel was closed for guests in 2005.

Mansion Engelman in Gunaros

Engelman mansion was built by the eponymous family in the early twentieth century, which also established the present site of Pobeda, not far from Gunaros. The mansion has a rectangular base, built as a free-standing storey building in a spacious park. Thanks to the people who tried to rebuild it, the mansion still looks authentic.

The estate of Hertelendi was founded in 1803. when Joseph Hertelendi purchased the village of Bocar and built a castle for himself. Later, the estate was divided between his three sons, so there were three castles in Bocar, but one of them was demolished before WWI. Today, the remaining two castles Hertelendi-Bajic and Hertelendi-Bayer are touristic attraction only for urban explorers.

Catholic Church of Saint Ivan Nepomuk

Roman Catholic Church of Saint Ivan Nepomuk is located in the center of Putinci village and represents one of the most sacred objects of Srem. The church was built in Gothic style in 1900, officially. The construction went on for a few more years, while the bells were awaited for two and a half decades.

 Medieval church Aracha

The mansion Pece was built by Pece Petar and his brother Ernest in 1923. According to all its elements, it belongs to higher rank of similar small buildings of rich families, who could afford themselves a bit different and a bit better house for living. Today the mansion is ruined and it does not have any purpose.

 Villa Klefis and Yuhor Factory

 Summer House in Belgrade

 Klefisch mansion was built during 1930s as a family residence of Teodor Klefisch, owner of Yuhor factory and one of the leaders in food industry at the time. Interior of this mansion was once lavishly decorated and used for many cultural events organized by wealthy family. Today, abandoned and ruined, Klefisch family home and Yuhor factory next to it are forgotten symbols of city of Jagodina and a remainder of passed better times.

  Unfortunately, at the moment, I don't have information about this house. The only known information is that there is

an active lawsuit for this property.

Aracha is medieval Romanesque church ruin. It was built around 1230. during the Kingdom of Hungary.  In 1551. Ottomans burned the cathedral down and it was never reconstructed again, but it still represents a Monument of Culture of Exceptional Importance.
 

 Sanatorium Beelitzer Heilstätten

This immense hospital complex was designed by architect Heino Schmieden and built in 1898. in the Southwest portion of Berlin. Originally built as a tuberculosis sanatorium, this massive complex was converted into a military hospital during WWI by the German Imperial Army. In 1945. the USSR took control of the facility turning it into a Soviet military hospital. The remainder of the complex, including the surgery, the psychiatric ward, and a rifle range, was abandoned in 2000.

Sugar factory in Belgrade

 Mansion in Kneza Milosa street

   Old mansion in Kneza Miloša 66 was built by Mihailo Bailoni in 1920. In the late sixties, the mansion was bought by Embassy of Guinea. During the nineties, the embassy was moved and mansion is abandoned.

The construction of the first and the oldest sugar factory in Serbia was made thanks to King of the former Yugoslavia Aleksandar Obrenovic. The factory is located in the heart of Belgrade and used to employ more than 500 people. The entire factory complex was closed in 1983, when the factory was abandoned.

 Home of the Yugoslav People's Army

Motel in Umag, Croatia

Unfortunately, I don't have detailed information about this building. I asked the neighbors if anyone remembers what was this building in the past. One old lady told me it was a motel for students, but it's abandoned more than thirty years.

Home of the Yugoslav People's Army was built between 1960. and 1962. The main idea of it's creators was to make an important social and cultural center, which was actually accomplished all until it's slow shutdown in the '90s. Prof. dr Vladimir Bjelikov was the architect of what would become one of the most important building of post WWII modern architecture in this city, but sadly left abandoned. The procedure of protecting it as a piece of cultural heritage is in process.
